Coming Clean

I have autumn envy. Reading around, I see bike rides and changing leaves. Looking around, I see single digit temps and snow lawns. There's always a little something sad that pricks my heart early on in this winter game. Maybe it's because I know how long winter feels by January and how even then - there will still be months to go. Sigh*

This year, I have a plan. I bought not one, but three full spectrum lamps. Two are rocking the studio and one happily resides near the wood stove for reading. I admit it, the darkness makes me sad but maybe not this year with all these happy lights in my house? And this week I'm making reservations for a January vacation. Just knowing I have a plane ticket and a plan has done a lot to halt the onset of winter blue. So bike ride on you warmer states! Harvest your gardens and watch those colorful leaves fall! I blow you ice crystal kisses from my post up North. xo

  1. And here I am having snowy winter envy! I actually just made an etsy treasury in a snowy theme. Great idea putting a lot of lamps around the house. Making my space as comfy and cute as possible always makes me happy to stay home. xo from California

  2. I think I could take my own advice and get some of those full-spectrum lights for myself! I'm already starting to feel down.

  3. tim and I try to do a trip in the late winter and we call it 'spring thaw,' because by then it is just time to go somewhere warmer, or at least different. Cabin fever hits us here too: favorite woollies feel too familiar, my feet long to be bare, I'm tired of hot tea, and my cheeks are way too flushed from the wood stove all the time. Hence 'spring thaw': usually a road trip to lower latitudes. It really makes a difference!

We have a dark room in the house and I have hung a lot of mirrors in it, to reflect what light there is. That helps a lot.

  4. I'm right there with you, Amy. We'll have lots of coffee dates this winter. I think it helps just to warm the car, bundle up and just get out for a few minutes! But of course trips to warmer climates are obviously the best... I'll be blowing you toasty kisses from south of the border on New Years! Do tell where your plans are taking you...?

  5. There is always a trade off, no? Right now I've got the ocean in my front yard, but snow is only a fleeting memory. Wanna trade for a week?

Miss Kelly Clark if you ever want to trade houses for a week in the winter I'm your gal. I can promise you a hill top - frozen river view, absolute quiet and a full spread of stars and aurora's!!
